An exhibition of traditional Hinamatsuri dolls displayed during Girls’ Day and Gogatsu Ningyo displayed for Boys’ Day will be available for viewing in the Lobby of the Library until the end of December. These colorful Japanese dolls are from my collection.
This is my third showing at the Cerritos Library, but the first time these particular Ningyo will be on display. These shots are of the larger of my two gotens (palaces).
Below are shots of my smaller goten. Unfortunately, there was not enough room in the case for the complete set of dolls so the three court ladies and all five of the musicians went off to the mall – Black Friday is such a blessing.
I still need to add the hina dogu which are the tools that accompany each doll. The ministers are missing their bows and arrows. The serving men need their rake, broom and dustpan.
The Emperor and the Empress are hiding behind the tassels sneaking a last bite of mochi before the photographer takes their picture. Special thanks to Hugo Zepeda for taking such wonderful shots of my collection.
